Where were you at 2:00 this morning?

Well, I was on my way with Tyler & Toms to the Emergency Room.  Yes, that's right, the ER.  It's been a very long time since we've made a stop in one of those.

So here's the story.
Toms was up so late last night {12:30, finally he went down} but I had a bunch of random stuff to get done still.  So once I got him to sleep I came back into the kitchen to finish a few projects.  Well I always seem to stretch myself pretty thin and these next few weeks are no exception.  I have a class tonight at Blissful Living and needed to get a few last minute things finished for it.  I have a group of about 30 Sorority girls doing a modge podge frame project.  So I was trying to get a staple out of one of the frames {of course with my sharpest scissors, so dumb, I know!} and what was to happen next?
SLICE!
ER visit
Right through my first two fingers.  My pointer finger was pretty bad but the middle finger wasn't too deep.  I just knew once I looked at it that the cut was way too deep just to stay home and let it heal on it's own.
So there I sat, 1:15 in the morning, with a bunch of paper towels wrapped around my fingers and trying to figure out what in the world to do.  I knew I couldn't drive myself to the ER because I was focusing all my energy on making sure I didn't loose too much blood. So I had no choice but to wake the boys up and head to the ER.  Well, when I woke Tyler up he started to try and talk me into not going {always has money on his mind} but I knew I had to.  So he got on the computer to try and find an urgent care that was 24 hours.  While I sat at the kitchen table trying not to pass out from fear and blood going everywhere.
Finally he decided we could just go to the ER.  Thanks babe!  Way to act on your feet.  So we headed over to the new Hospital where the old Mesa General used to be.  We got right in and were able to be seen within a half hour.  Poor toms didn't know what was going on.
So I'm lying in the bed and the nurse is a little unorthodox.  Just very sarcastic and not very soothing.  So he wants me to just put my hand in side this bowl full of disinfectant and I hadn't been numbed yet.  So naturally I was a little concerned with the pain.  He was not worried one bit.  Anyway, that hurt!
So then the doctor came in and wanted to see the lacerations.  He started poking then and opening them in and out, OUCH!  and the doctor was also not very friendly.  He had lots of curly out of control hair and just NO sensitivity at all!  Very unfriendly.  So I guess that's what started the whole thing for me and for whatever reason, I just start bawling!!!  Like a freaking baby!  It was uncontrollable!  Tyler kept trying to clm me down, but I just couldn't stop.  It was so weird!  I've never had a broken bone in my body and I've also never had to have stitches, at least that I can remember.  When I was like 2 my thumb was caught in the door jam and had to get sewn back on.  But I was so young I don't remember a thing.  So this was a new experience for me.  I've been in the ER plenty of times in my life but it's always been for headaches or stomach issues.  So right away I get an IV started and don't have to feel a thing.  But for this visit there was no IV.  No drugs, no nothing!  I was a little freaked out and not enjoying it!!!

Then I found out that they numb the area that is being stitched up right in that area.  That was VERY unsettling!  as the doctor was doing it it was SSSSSOOOOOO uncomfortable and hurt like a mother that I just screamed at the top of my lungs.  and then I couldn't stop, the tears kept coming.  I was sobbing.  So sad!  I'm usually able to keep myself calm, but certainly not this time!

Anyway, as he was stitching I could still feel parts of it and that just hurt like a mother.  I decided right then and there, that there is no way I can do Child Birth without an epideral, EVER!  Sorry!  Not going to happen!
Anyway, then to make matters worse, I had to get a darn Tetnice {Spelling?} shot.  Anyway, finally about 3:00 am we were headed home.

I think I've learned my lesson, I don't ever want to do that again!  And now I'm slightly handicapped, I can't even put my bra on.  I have so much to do within the next few weeks and now I only have a hand and a half to work with.  Sucks!

Anyway, that was our fun filled evening last night.  Hope yours was a little bit better.  and my shot hurts like crazy and not to mention that I'm going to have to get these darn stitches out in 10 days.  I'll be going through this all over again.  Uhhh, the joys of being human.

Ugh! Sounds painful. So sorry you had to go through that. Don't worry though getting stiches out does not hurt near as much as getting them in.

You poor thing. That is awful. However I love that at some point after this happened, you still took the time to take a picture of the scissors!!! Probably while Tyler was debating whether or not your situation warranted the ER copay. =) I love the "Thanks babe, way to think on your feet" !! Totally something Matt would do too! These boys. Getting the stitches out won't be bad at all. Do we know the gender yet of #2?

Oh that's awful! I had no idea that they stabbed the needle w/ the anesthesia directly into the wound until I had to take Ben to the ER for slicing his hand (cutting a bagel for breakfast w/ a butter knife?) when we were first married! I didn't want to watch! OUCH!! And geez your DR could've had a little more empathy for you! Hope it's healing good!

OW! OW! OW!!! OW!!!!!!!!!!!! Dude, Epidurals are AWWWWWWESOME! lol When I had a c-section with my second baby, they had to do a STRONG epi and also morphine! LOL I was SO itchy.. I couldn't scratch anything though because of the dang IV's! (Which hurt more than ANYTHING out of the entire birthing process!!! DANG IT!) Scissors + staples = not a good idea. Got it. lol :) Hope it's feeling better now!
